ROCm 7.1 Is Here: An Accelerator for the TensorWave Platform

If you build, train, or serve AI on AMD GPUs, the ROCm 7.1 beta is more than a quality-of-life upgrade, it's an accelerator. This release brings broader OS support for Instinct accelerators, tighter CUDA-interop in HIP, faster collective comms, new low-precision math paths, and better profiling across the stack.

Below is a quick tour of the most useful changes, followed by what this means for solving your biggest cost and performance challenges on the TensorWave platform.


What’s New in ROCm 7.1

 * Enterprise-Grade Virtualization is Here ROCm 7.1 expands OS coverage for Instinct cards (including MI325X and legacy MI100) and adds KVM SR-IOV Guest OS support for our flagship MI355X/MI350X GPUs on RHEL 10 and RHEL 9.6. This is critical for secure, multi-tenant setups.
 * HIP Closes the Gap with CUDA The HIP runtime picks up a raft of new memory, stream, module, and device-management APIs , plus cooperative-group nested tile partitioning and lower module-load latency. This slashes the "cost to switch" and smooths code portability.
 * Libraries Level Up: Faster Math for SOTA Models
   * hipBLASLt adds optimized TF32 kernels for our MI355X GPUs , FP8 paths on MI350X , and targeted fixes/optimizations for large models like Llama 2 70B and Mixtral-8x7B.
   * hipSPARSELt accelerates structured-sparsity SpMM on our MI300X GPUs with multi-buffer execution and better tuning.
 * Faster Multi-GPU Training RCCL improves select collective operations, boosts single-node throughput on MI350 , and validates against NCCL 2.27.7, which helps heterogeneous cluster integration.
 * Deeper Profiling and Power Control Compute & Systems Profilers add "dynamic attach," allowing you to profile long-running jobs without a restart. This release also adds new CPU metrics and, crucially, AMDSMI power-capping support for MI300X 1VF, enabling per-VM power tuning.
 * Frameworks Are Production-Ready
   * PyTorch: Torch-MIGraphX wheels are now officially published.
   * JAX: Llama-2 is now efficiently supported.
   * TensorFlow: ROCm 7.1 enables TF 2.20.0.
   * ONNX Runtime: MIGraphX Execution Provider (the new standard) is supported. AMD has officially ended support for the legacy ROCm-EP.

ROCm 7.1's official KVM SR-IOV Guest OS support for our MI355X/MI350X GPUs and support for multi-tenant (up to 8VM) setups hardens our multi-tenancy. It's the software proof that makes our "Sized for Your Workload" promise a secure, production-ready reality.

3. Break Free from the "Walled Garden" Faster The "cost to switch" from CUDA just plummeted. The new HIP APIs for memory, stream, and module management mean you can migrate your "CUDA-first" repos to our platform with minimal code changes. The “walled garden”' is officially open.

4. Scale Multi-GPU Training Seamlessly With RCCL tuning and higher xGMI throughput, your jobs that rely on All-Gather/All-Reduce (e.g., tensor parallelism) will see immediate single-node performance boosts. The NCCL 2.27.7 validation also simplifies integration with any existing heterogeneous clusters.

5. Optimize Your Costs with "Live Attach" Profiling This is a massive win for MLOps. You can now use "dynamic attach" to profile long-running jobs without a restart. On our platform, this means you can attach a profiler to a running container, find a bottleneck, and then use the new per-VM power capping on the MI300X to tune your performance-per-watt in place.

6. Deploy on Day One with SOTA Frameworks Run PyTorch with new Torch-MIGraphX wheels , JAX with efficient Llama-2 support , and TensorFlow 2.20 straight away. We will have tested, hardened images with the correct MIGraphX Execution Provider (the new standard) ready for your PoC.
